Where The Rubber Meets The Road

"As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead."
James 2:26

As Christians, where does the rubber meet the road? It's when our faith comes in contact with real life.

Real life gets messy. Sometimes things go right. Sometimes things go wrong. We're well. We're sick. The sun shines. The clouds rain. It's too hot. It's too cold.

For our faith to do anybody any good, it has to come in contact with real life. We can't leave it in the sanctuary after church on Sunday morning. It has to go with us out into our world--into our homes, into our workplaces, into every corner of our lives.

The rubber meets the road--our faith and our deeds--when we choose to respond as Jesus would respond, when we perform those small, specific deeds of kindness for those with whom we come in contact every day.

May the prayer of St. Richard of Chichester be your prayer:

"O most merciful Redeemer, Friend, and Brother,
May I know Thee more clearly,
Love Thee more dearly,
Follow Thee more nearly,
Day by day.
Amen."

thank you for reminding me to take Jesus with me into my home. That seems to be the easiest place to short change those i love the most. where irritation can be expressed and they have to take it.

i am making the choice to give the irritations of "real life" over to God and asking Him for the strength to keep that commitment.

thanks again. i am learning from your writing.
