Missing Children

"A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more."
Matthew 2:18

In the past seven months, two of my co-workers have had children die. One lost a daughter, the middle of his five children, a vibrant 17-year-old girl. The other lost a long-awaited son, her first child, at the age of two hours.

Those of us who know them and have children of our own often comment to each other, "I can't imagine what they're going through." But I think, deep down inside, we do imagine, and we know that the deep, raw, almost unbearable anguish that we feel just from our imaginings pales in comparison to the anguish that they face in their reality.

These co-workers are in my thoughts and on my heart, now more than ever, as Christmas draws near. Please pray for all parents for whom it is their first Christmas without their child. Pray for their comfort. Pray that they will avail themselves of the healing God has for them. Pray that they will take hold of the hope that lies in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fadeā€”kept in heaven for you ..."
1 Peter 1:3, 4

Thanks very much for this post and for the scripture from 1 Peter. I don't know if God's light, and the hope it brings, truly shines brighter in the dark times, but I know I feel in much more desperate need of it.
